The Registered Nurse provides psychiatric and mental health nursing care working within a team with individuals experiencing psychiatric and mental health problems. The patient population includes the severely mentally ill and those who are experiencing a psychosocial crisis. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CNA).
The successful candidate requires the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with the patient, the family and the interdisciplinary team. This position will be required to work in all areas of the Adult Inpatient Mental Health unit, including the Psychiatric Intensive Care Area (PICA)
The PICA is 6-8 bed, controlled access area that provides a low stimulation, intensely monitored environment for patients experiencing acute mental health difficulties requiring a high level of observation to maintain safety. The PICA treatment team and milieu, support stabilization and recovery processes through assessment, treatment interventions, transition and/or discharge planning.
Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
