Temporary Part Time Registered Nurse (KW-ONA)
Approximately until March  2018


HOURS OF WORK:
12 Hour Shifts        
Self-scheduling


JOB SUMMARY:    
The oncology nurse will be involved in all aspects of the inpatient oncology program, including patient/family assessment, patient teaching related to chemotherapy administration, supportive and palliative care, and treatment administration (Chemotherapy).  As a member of the interdisciplinary team the oncology nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives.  Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.


QUALIFICATIONS:    
•    Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
•    Oncology foundations, chemotherapy and biotherapy, and psychosocial oncology courses from the deSouza Institute preferred
•    Chemotherapy administration certification preferred
•    Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CONC) or equivalent
•    Member of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology
•    Minimum 3 years recent experience in oncology nursing preferred
•    Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team
•    Working with a variety of computer systems and software applications
•    Participation in education and clinical training programs
•    Good attendance record


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Principles of oncology and palliative care nursing and adult learning:
•    Therapeutic communication techniques
•    Excellent interpersonal & communication skills as well as the ability to work independently  
•    Knowledge in patient-focused care and the needs of the oncology patient population
