Monday to Friday 0830-1630hrs, with flexibility to work outside these hours




The Registered Nurse in the Diagnostic Assessment Program supports patients along the entire diagnostic journey. The RN will provide coverage for all three programs; the Breast (BDAP) , Thoracic (TDAP) and GI/Colorectal Diagnostic Assessment Programs. These programs are both virtual and provide in person ambulatory clinics. The RN reviews incoming referrals, completes nursing assessments both on the phone and in person and provides symptom management, teaching and emotional support for patients within the programs. As well, in collaboration with the team, the RN advocates for the expedition of patient appointments to ensure timely care. The oncology RN in the DAP program is an integral part of the comprehensive cancer program designed to decrease wait times, improve access to care, decrease fragmentation of care and coordinate services. In addition, the RN covering the TDAP reviews and facilitates the triaging of patients referred to the Malignant Pleural Effusion clinic. In these programs, the RN contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.




•Current Certification of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario and BScN or equivalent
• 3 or more years oncology experience – surgical oncology experience an asset
• Successful Completion of an approved Oncology Certification Program (i.e. CON(C)) considered an asset
• Successful Completion of the de Souza Nurse Navigator Certification Program considered an asset
• Proven ability to work independently and within the multidisciplinary team
• Excellent communication skills
• Advanced therapeutic communication techniques including experience in telephone nursing support a definite asset
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills
Understanding of adult education strategies an asset
• Proven ability to develop and foster internal and external interdisciplinary team relationships
• Proficiency with MS Office, Excel,
• Knowledge of the current Waterloo Wellington Regional cancer care system and the Cancer Care Ontario Diagnostic Assessment Program an asset
• Good attendance record
