Part Time Oncology Clinic Nurse


Monday to Friday – 4 hr shifts



The Oncology Clinic Nurse will be responsible for the day to day clinic operations of the PACES clinic (Patient Access Clinic for those Experiencing Symptoms). The specialized oncology nurse will provide nursing assessment for symptom management related to treatment. This includes assessments and interventions based on the CoSTAR guidelines, facilitating urgent intervention and follow up as required in community.



• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Three to five years recent experience in Oncology nursing
• deSouza Foundations of Oncology Nursing Practice or deSouza Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course required
• deSouza Patient Navigation Course preferred
• Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CONC) or commitment to complete CONC in a timely manner
• IV certified, competency with Port a Cath access and Central Line Care preferred
• Demonstrated experience in working within an inter-disciplinary team
• Working with a variety of computer systems and software applications
• Participation in education and clinical training programs
• Experience in utilizing Cancer Care Ontario symptom management guidelines preferred
• Good attendance record
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of:
• Oncologic disease processes
• Patient assessment and telephone assessment based on CoSTARS guidelines
• Principles of adult learning
• Needs of the oncology patient population and principles of person centred care
• Care coordination within the Cancer Centre, GRH and community hospitals and agencies
• Detailed oriented, with an ability to track performance metrics
• Therapeutic communication techniques
• Critical thinking and proven abilities in problem solving
• Ability to work independently as well as within an interdisciplinary team
