    Full Time Lead Pharmacy Technician for Grand River Regional Cancer Centre


    7.5 hour shifts, Days



    GRH Pharmacy Technicians provide pharmaceutical care through a variety of settings: inpatient acute care, complex continuing care, an outpatient cancer centre, outpatient renal program, a primary care clinic and an onsite retail pharmacy. All of our technicians are certified by the Ontario College of Pharmacists and take full responsibility for all of the distribution functions of pharmacy services.


    The Lead Cancer Centre Pharmacy Technician will assist the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre Pharmacy Coordinator in the management of the daily operations of the Cancer Centre Pharmacy Department while operating within approved operational budgets and regulatory standards. This position will include, but not be limited to:

    • Ensure that standard operating practices in the Cancer Centre Pharmacy meet all accreditation and regulatory standards. This includes regular audits, training and certifications as required by legislation.
    • Act in the capacity of Compounding Supervisor over-seeing that work in the Cancer Centre is performed according to NAPRA standards
    • Model and facilitate the development of staff behaviors which are consistent with the mission, vision and values of both the Organization and Pharmacy Services
    • Perform the day to day functions of a Cancer Centre Pharmacy Technician as needed based on workload requirements
    • Manage the day to day co-ordination of functions within the Cancer Centre Pharmacy
    • Support the Director of Pharmacy Services and the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre Pharmacy Coordinator to supervise, evaluate and monitor pharmacy technician staff working in the Cancer Centre Pharmacy



    • Graduate of approved Pharmacy Technician Program 

    • Current regulated pharmacy technician license with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
    • At least a minimum 5 years related experience in an acute care hospital setting with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accredited hospital IV admixture program
    • Good working knowledge of governing legislation for pharmacy e.g. USP 797, USP 795, USP 800, NAPRA, OCP Accreditation Standards, Accreditation Canada Standards
    • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
    • Ability to foster collaboration in an interdisciplinary team environment in order to manage and complete projects
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent problem solving skills and demonstrated initiative
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
    • Proven good attendance record


    • Supervisory experience is preferred
    • At least 3 years of sterile compounding experience in hazardous drugs is preferred
