    POSITION:
    Part Time ONA Registered Nurse

     

    HOURS OF WORK:
    11.25 Hour Shifts

    Days/Nights/Weekends


    JOB SUMMARY:

    Delivers highly skilled intensive nursing care within a family centered, team environment. This position is a composite position between ICU-A and ICU-B (The home unit will be ICU-A). Ongoing certification and involvement in educational events/conferences, unit activities to develop and maintain/advance critical care skills. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.     QUALIFICATIONS: • Current Certificate of Competence from College of Nurses of Ontario – required
    • 2 years recent experience in Intensive Care nursing
    • Successful completion of Basic and Advanced Arrhythmia Interpretation and 12 lead ECG, and ACLS certification courses
    • Competency skills: venepuncture, IV initiation, administration of medications below the drip chamber, BG testing
    • Experience in the management of patients requiring the following: epidural and intrapleural catheter, chest tube, arterial line, central line(including hemodialysis line) pulmonary artery catheter, mechanical ventilation, pain and sedation assessment and intervention
    • Theoretical preparation/and or willingness to prepare for certification in:
               • Defibrillation
               • External pacemakers
               • Adjustments to TTP's
               • Utilization of medical directives for the administration of life saving drugs and IV initiation
    • Competency in assessment and interventions for various patient populations ranging from neonatal through to the geriatric patient
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with patients, families and other members of the multidisciplinary team
    • Participation in on-going education related to professional practice
    • Critical Care Certificate, Critical Care National Certificate preferred
    • Good attendance record
